So I've been using a cruzer micro flash drive for the past four years (actually, I've used several of them. I loose them alot). They're cheap and they don't have a cap for me to misplace. Unfortunately, they're also boring and ubiquitous. It seems like 80% of the flash drives on campus are identical black rectangles.
So I decided to mod mine. Now, I love that you can stick a flash drive in almost anything*. However, I didn't have anything I particularly wanted to stick it in. Maybe next time. I also wanted it to retain it's small profile since I do most of my computing on the campus labs and need it to fit comfortably in my pocket all day. So I painted it.
After I pried it apart with a small screwdriver and sanded down damage the screw driver had done to the plastic, I gave it a coat of blue Krylon Fussion spraypaint (the only spraypaint I had on hand). It looked pretty slick after I superglued it back together. Even just being blue was a major improvement. For a little added pizazz I painted some little tiki faces on it with some acrylic paint.
I have a feeling this may wear off in my pocket after a while. We'll see how long it lasts. Next time I think I'll make a stencil for the faces so there aren't any brush marks.
